NYU Student Sentenced to 45 Days in Jail for Albatross Murders

An NYU student was sentenced to 45 days in jail on July 6 for crimes in 2015 that left over a dozen endangered albatrosses dead in a Hawaii nature reserve. Community members have been petitioning to expel him from the university.
President Andrew Hamilton names Lisa Coleman as the university's first Chief Diversity Officer. Coleman was previously the Chief Diversity Officer at Harvard.

Recent changes to New York City park rules reduce the amount of offenses resulting in a permanent criminal record. These changes were instated to decrease mass incarceration, which is a serious problem in the United States.

In a survey administered by the university in 2016, 1,218 students answered questions about NYU's climate of sexual misconduct.  According to the survey results, 52.7 percent of students did not notify anyone of their sexual misconduct experience.

NYU’s Public Safety team is working to achieve accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. They would only be the second campus security department in the country to do so.
