Turkish NYU students commemorate 85 years since the death of republic founder

The NYU Turkish Cultural Association held a ceremony Friday, Nov 10, paying tribute to the anniversary of the death of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.

On Friday, Nov. 10, the Turkish Cultural Association at NYU held a commemoration ceremony to honor the 85th anniversary of the death of the founder and the first president of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Atatürk is widely credited for Turkish independence, democracy and secularism. During the event, the students held a minute of silence at the time of his death, 9:05 a.m and then sang the Turkish national anthem.
