Through her runway show entitled “The Heart is the Center,” Francesca Liberatore showed that orange truly is the new black for Spring/Summer 2016.

Hues of true orange, sangria, bold pink, and persimmon were balanced with traditional black and whites. The collection was clearly a presentation of juxtaposition; silk chiffon capris and a-line lace dresses were met by suiting-inspired jackets and waistlines. These strong silhouettes were alternated throughout the show, proving Liberatore’s versatility.

The Italian-born designer aimed to take an honest look at the heart, addressing its many facets instead of the concept of true love that it is generally associated with.  Pieces featured tightly embroidered hand-drawn hearts, as well as Swarovski crystal detailing.

“I was thinking of feminine and beautiful for this collection. I love drawing, and this is all about my illustration,” Liberatore said.

The collection had numerous pieces with flowing silk chiffon knotted together to create beautiful draping. A light wash denim overcoat stood out from the crowd, both in color and shape. The jacket featured large square pockets. This look was repeated but in leather on lightweight black skirt that featured bright orange detailing. Bold orange trousers were followed by a simple knit white dress; after that, more pinks and reds were introduced to keep the energy of the collection going strong.

Nigel Barker and Kelly Osbourne, accompanied by her dog, were in attendance.

“I’ve never seen a designer work with those colors and pull it off,” Osbourne said. “It was amazing, my favorite one I’ve seen so far — magical.”

Models walked barefoot down the runway with center parted, slightly mussed hair. Accessories were scarce, keeping the eye fixed on the detailed garments.
