It’s my last first day of school. Today signifies the first page of the final chapter of my undergraduate years at NYU — a moment wrapped in nostalgia, accomplishment and the thrill of new beginnings. In the midst of this, I am excited to embark on another semester and, for the last time, lead the university’s independent student newspaper the Washington Square News.

The start of a new academic semester has always carried a certain magic — a promise of discovery, growth and forging new connections. This year, however, is unlike any other for me. It is the beginning of the end, a closing chapter that will hopefully encapsulate the essence of my journey at NYU.

One of the highlights of my college experience has been steering the ship of WSN. Serving as a conduit for the voices of our diverse community, we’ve strived to create a platform that reflects the heartbeat of NYU. As I embark on this final semester, the pages of our newspaper are ready to come alive once again, teeming with stories that echo the vibrancy of our community.

The anticipation of starting production again at the newspaper adds an extra layer of excitement to this last first day. It’s a chance to revisit the core of journalistic pursuit: to investigate, report, inform and challenge. Our editorial team is eager to delve into the issues that matter to our NYU community, inform this community on the happenings around the city and share the news efficiently to our audience.

This semester promises a resurgence of the relentless spirit that defines NYU’s student body. Together at WSN, we plan to continue our commitment to quality journalism, fostering conversations that bridge gaps and ensuring that our student newspaper remains a beacon of authenticity and insight. We have the power to be NYU’s primary source of reliable news with attested reporting, and I am honored to guide this process for one final term.

So, as I stand on the threshold of this final chapter, I’m not only reminiscing about my journey thus far, but am also looking ahead with optimism. As we begin the start of this new academic year, I invite you to contribute your stories, share your perspectives and join us in communicating accurate narratives this semester at WSN.
