The lights dimmed and the chatter quieted, a Karigam’s Spring/Summer 2016 fashion show began. Pulsating music matched the rhythm of everyone’s heartbeats as soon as the black and white masterpieces hit the floor matching the all around minimalistic, contemporary setting. Toni Garrn opened the show as she strutted down the floor level runway; she was draped in a white coat that floated behind her, and was styled with a matching white asymmetric top.
Asymmetrical tops followed throughout the collection in a variety of silhouettes and styles. Rose mesh layering added texture and color to the monochromatic scheme. The designer and the brand’s namesake, Karina Gamez, showed her architectural background with the geometric shapes in the garments from the granite diagonal panels to the illusionary un-zippered dresses all made from beautiful Italian fabric. Streamlined blazers and slacks made the collection sophisticated enough for the working woman, but still had a hint of edge with the cuts and contrast of color.
The makeup, provided by Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics, was natural and clean letting the clothes shine. Meanwhile, the hair was slicked back in an almost showered look, with voluminous curls in the back styled by Ammon Carver for L’anza Haircare.
Jamie Chung attended, wearing black and white in sync with the designer who is known for using those two tones most commonly, as did Solange Knowles; both were seated front and center. Karigam’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection may be black and white, but the impression it left was very colorful.
