Azerbajiani designer Rufat Ismayil debuted his new Spring/Summer 2020 AFFFAIR collection last night his at Spring Studios.
The show kicked off with a light heather blue mini-dress, followed by a multifarious array of dresses and gowns. The delicate color palette ranged from light heather blues and pastel pinks to purples and tangerines. A mixture of materials were showcased such as organza, chiffon and silk, reminiscent of the Kahri Bulbul, a rare orchid that grows in Azerbaijan, the designer’s home country, and which inspired the entire collection. Although Ismayil was bold in his use of such textiles, the sleek designs were never overwhelming.
Among the packed crowd sat notable guests such as Love & Hip Hop’s Nya Lee, “Orange is the New Black’s” Francesca Curan and WWE wrestler CJ Perry.
Overall, the significance of Ismayil’s heritage to the collection was fully demonstrated by both the flowing and delicate dresses as well as the Middle Eastern remix music. AFFFAIR is known for contemporary and sophisticated designs as well as touching upon classic styles, and this year was no different.
