Millions of spectators head to Midtown every year to celebrate Irish culture and heritage at New York City’s 264th St. Patrick’s Day parade. Around 150,000 participants make up the march down Fifth Avenue, ranging from the Fire Department of the City of New York to school bands and heritage societies.

A sea of spectators dotted with green gather behind barricades to watch the start of the parade.

The crowd’s cheers were joined by the constant sounds of bagpipes and bands.

Family and friends of parade participants showed up with spirited signs and loud cheers of support.

The parade grew quieter as it headed through the Upper East Side and finished with a turn onto 79th Street. Marchers rolled up their flags, packed away their gear and reunited with family.
