Kolchagov Barba F/W 2018

Sophie Shaw, Editor-at-Large

High-shine looks ruled Kolchagov Barba’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection. The designers Svetoslav Kolchagov and Emilio Barba didn’t hold back on their glamorous evening wear, with silk, velvet and sequin-clad models walking the runway.

The color palette stuck to steel gray and black, with cobalt accents mixed in, and a couple outlying burgundy and mustard pieces. The abundance of sequins made the collection party-ready. A black sequined wrap style blazer and pant set stood out among the other sequined dresses and jumpsuits. Fringe also added a playful element to the collection, appearing in combination with sequins, like as a trim along the short sleeves of a black and silver ombre dress.

Trans activist and model Munroe Bergdorf closed the show wearing a black pleated silk a-line dress and cape hybrid. Several other dresses were also done in metallic pleated silk, which displayed more voluminous silhouettes than the body-conscious velvet cocktail dresses. Volume was also added to the models’ hair, as most had theirs styled in tall bouffants.

The collection seemed quite commercial overall, with plenty of luxe evening wear options for those who require it.
