Accessories Premier Fall/Winter 2015
February 14, 2015
The Accessories Premier for Fall/Winter 2015 presented the latest in accessories from three American designers. With the show opening to a pop remix of Bruno Mars, the audience anticipated a fun, lively show and they were not disappointed. The first brand, by artist Yvette Crocker, presented a plethora of precious and semiprecious African beads, worn by models dressed in plain and simple bathing suits. Emphasis was clearly on body draping jewelry which accentuated the female form. A tribal theme was definitely evident in her designs with the use of feathers to complement the hand selected beads. Pieces included long drop earrings, stacked bracelets and elaborate necklaces accenting models’ necks and adding a pop of color to the collection.
The show continued by focusing on menswear with Charles Miller’s denim collection. Aimed at being professional, durable and provocative, these versatile jeans were crafted from raw selvedge. The collection embodied three main looks, including the “Traveller,” which is a modernized slim, straight fit jean with tapered legs; the “Visionary,” which is a straight fit jean with straight legs and the “Professional,” which is a classic skinny fit jean, tapered all the way through. There were various ways to fold the cuffs of the jeans, including a regular fold, an uneven messy-look fold and a high double fold.
The final show by Ronetta J. Coleman brought us back to jewelry, with a collection inspired by the aesthetics of ancient Egyptian royalty. The collection was an amalgamation of everyday pieces and high-end pieces which was reflected in the various all-back outfits worn by the models. The gold pieces were standout against their black background. Gold wire bracelets were a constant theme throughout the collection, with leather cord bracelets often making an appearance alongside coil earrings.
The accessories showcased could feature in anyone’s wardrobe, providing that much sought-after and ever-elusive versatility and glamour.
