In a recent report from The New York Post, an NYU student was apprehended on Dec. 22 after stealing multiple Apple computers from students during finals week. According to the Post, Christian S. Windley, 20, pillaged dorm halls and study rooms stealing a total of 5 laptops and a score of other miscellaneous items as well including an iPod, calculator, wallet, cash and credit card.
Stern senior Antoinette Li, whose Macbook Air was left for an hour on a table in Palladium’s third floor study lounge on Dec. 18, returned to the same study room at 5:00 p.m. to find her laptop missing.
After filling a report with the NYPD and NYU Public Safety and providing her laptop’s serial number, she was told she could do nothing but wait. Luckily, most of her finals for her 8 a.m. final the next morning were saved online through Dropbox.
A detective later informed her that a suspect had been captured, but it was likely her laptop had already been sold.
NYU’s Department of Public Safety manages an open record of crime statistics online. From Dec. 17 to Dec. 20, six incidents of larceny were reported by students occupying areas on the third floor of Palladium.
The NYU’s Public Safety office won’t return until Jan. 2, but in the meantime, Li hopes her newly purchased laptop will be found.
Windley’s next court appearance has been set to Apr. 9th, 2013.
