Campaign goodies: top election movies

If the current political climate has you feeling down, get into the election spirit with these comedies, biographies and political thrillers. Here are the top five election movies to watch this November.

 

“The Candidate” (1972)

“The Candidate,” a drama written by Jeremy Larner, stars Robert Redford as a lawyer who enters in a U.S. Senate race.

 

“The Distinguished Gentleman” (1992)

This comedy stars Eddie Murphy as Thomas Jefferson Johnson, a man who cons his way into Congressional office.

 

“Milk” (2008)

This popular biographical drama details the life of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man elected to public office in California.

 

“The Ides of March” (2011)

George Clooney plays Democratic presidential candidate Mike Morris in this political thriller, which features a star-studded cast.

 

“The Campaign” (2012)

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis compete to out-gaffe each another in a congressional race in this newly released slapstick comedy.
