When asked what mptovated his collection, Qing Qing Wu reflected that “tranquility and the serene sense of calmness” inspired him to use textured fabrics, wash effects, and a monochromatic color scheme.
This season’s VLOV collection exuded a feeling of repose, as the gray on gray and black on navy suit combinations were perfectly understated. The subtle jacquard jacket paired with the delicate sheer silks and crinkled linen brought interest to the washed out ensembles in heather and charcoal. Skillfully pulling on the strings of edginess, Wu integrated leather details and even threw in several all leather pieces. However, a definite highlight of the show was the slate suit with the cobalt button down which showcased tones that were unexpected but worked together harmoniously.
In contrast to the tranquility flowing throughout the show, Wu managed to incorporate some unpredictable elements. An eerie melody faded into a bass heavy techno beat as the first model opened the show. The abrupt change in music left the viewers amused and excited. However, the most unexpected event of the show was the bright salmon suit that closed the runway. Other than the light blues, this salmon suit was the only colorful look in the entire collection. Although it certainly was not cohesive, it was fun and bright and acted as refreshing final exclamation point..
