The NYU men’s tennis team crushed the competition on Saturday and Sunday, defeating both Vassar College and the Coast Guard Academy at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens.

Against Vassar, the Violets won eight out of their nine matches. The highlight of Saturday’s games was sophomore Sammy Aronson winning the first competition of his college career. NYU won all three doubles matches, with Sidd Thangirala and Ian Combemale playing as the number ones.

In singles, the Violets collected five wins, only one of which reached a third set. CJ Leong, Samuel Khoshbin, Matt DeMichiel and Karan Goyal contributed to the Violets’ victory. On Sunday against the Coast Guard Academy, junior Sid Thangirala came off his loss on Saturday to defeat Robert Renfrow of CGA 6-0 and 6-1. Overall, the Violets beat Coast Guard Academy seven matches to two.

At the start of the weekend, the Violets had a record of only 1-4. After strong play in the last couple days though, they picked up two consecutive victories for the first time all season. Ian Combemale, a freshman, picked up two victories over the weekend playing as the number-two single.

The team has only three matches left to play in the regular season, with a possible fourth coming should they have a weather-cancelled earlier match rescheduled. They will square off against Stevens Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Brandeis University before they compete in the UAA Championships in Florida at the end of April.
