Current board vice chairman William Berkley, Stern School of Business ’66, will be the new chairman of the NYU Board of Trustees. Berkley will replace current chair Martin Lipton in October 2015 following a 16-month transition period.
The Polytechnic School of Engineering has been labeled a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations by the National Security Agency and the U.S. Cyber Command.
NYU Langone may soon be running the ER at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn as local real-estate developers look to convert the financially troubled SUNY facility into a condo space. As part of an offer made to SUNY, the developers would maintain some medical facilities in the soon-to-be residential complex for urgent care, which Langone and Lutheran Healthcare have promised to help coordinate.

New York City is starting a new pilot program to try to reduce the number of rats in neighborhoods where previous irradiation efforts have been unsuccessful. It is estimated that there are twice as many rats as people in the city.
As New York heads into hurricane season, Joseph Bruno has resigned from his job as Office of Emergency Management Commissioner. The mayor’s office has not yet announced a replacement.
