Rebecca Vallance, an Australian native, left her old floral prints behind and embraced an edgier look for her Fall/Winter 2014 collection. The pieces presented this morning in Hub at Hudson were tailored and minimalistic. This could also be said of the presentation as a whole; the show was staged in a way that allowed the viewers to move freely as the models stood in a statuesque manner on large white cubes.
Leather and ivory silk were used significantly throughout the collection. The combination of these two elements gave classic silhouettes a new twist. A cut-out leather pencil skirt and dress as well as a translucent embroidered dress stood out as the highlights of the show.
Models wore natural, bronze makeup, sleek ponytails and sported laced high heels to accompany the chic designs. A hip atmosphere was created in the presentation space through the playing of alternative songs, such as “The Mother We Share” by CHVRCHES. Nonetheless, the focus remained on the edgy clothing.
The collection was the epitome of the classy, sophisticated rebel and was a promising New York debut for the Sydney-born designer.
