Stepping into Skylight at Moynihan Station, each attendee fell into a trance-like state in which they basked in the ethereal glow of the entire room. Jen Kao, a Steinhardt alumna, created a collection inspired by Yoko Ono, the Beatles, and other musical icons from the 1960s.
As the models began to strut down the runway to Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” the first few outfits were head-to-toe denim. While the denim trend continued through the beginning, cotton and colored silks quickly became the stars of the entire collection, which overall stayed representative of the decade, where flowing hems portrayed an easy-going nature.
One standout piece was the Bunnicula Embroidery Dress, which featured multiple colors incorporated into intricate feather-like wisps accented with brown beading. Out of Kao’s entire collection, this dress was the most abstract.
But the surprise factor of the entire show was when a large dog with long, blonde hair accompanied the models on the runway throughout the show.
