The brightly lit room in the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater glowed as the Yuna Yang Spring/Summer 2014 collection debuted. The looks presented in the show were practical and sensible to a certain extent, but they all included a dramatic element of flashiness or creativity that set them apart from the rest. Simple gaucho-style pants were paired with either sheer tops or bright mint or pink tops. These risky touches gave the looks an edge that definitely screamed high-end fashion.
A recurring element of sparkle was featured in this collection, including chunky, silver necklaces, studded tiara-like headpieces, and sequin accents, some of which clung to bright pink Bermuda shorts. Sky-high neutral-colored heels elongated the models, whose hair was pulled back in sleek, striking ponytails.
One standout outfit of the overall stunning collection was composed of a form-fitting brown dress that had bursts of bright pink lace in a floral pattern, black and white pumps, and a rhinestone encrusted headpiece that added a sparkly touch. This ambiguous ensemble fell somewhere between an evening-out look and one designated for a professional setting. Versatile and not easily categorized, the pieces in the Yuna Yang collection were on the whole, fun, flirty, and fashion-forward.
