JSong Spring/Summer 2014 is a collection of hand-crafted clothing aimed to create a smooth pattern, avoiding broken seams. In her new collection, Way Zen, the designer behind JSong, puts a particular emphasis on pastels, embroidery, and lace, still producing formal attire similar to her past works. Nearly every piece was constructed from or included elements of linen and flowed naturally on the model.
One particularly eye-catching ensemble was a color block blouse worn paired with white linen pants. Zen broke from her usual norm by beginning to incorporate more colorful designs and an array of embroidered patterns to create a vibrant spring and summer collection.
JSong’s previous collections have combined the modern formal attire and business wear of Western women with the rich colors and patterns of Eastern culture. Zen’s clothes have a tendency to be monochromatic with very few highlighted accents or designs on the clothing itself. Her clothes are almost always accompanied by heels of an accented color, drawing the color out of the scheme and calling particular attention to it. JSong is known for the fluid, earthy style of its designs, inspired by flora and the natural world.
The venue itself was quaint, featuring a spread of fresh fruit and intimate seating. The music played before and after the show featured songs by The Naked and Famous, Foster the People, and fun.
