NYU’s first annual Bobster Egg hunt commenced. But the philanthropical organizers of the merry search have remained anonymous, promoting the event through an Facebook page and Twitter account. The event became a delightful reprieve for many students yesterday afternoon.
If you’re looking for someone to thank, meet the conductors behind Sunday’s race for over 1,000 eggs hidden in the crevices of Bobst. Twelve golden eggs were found in the 10 above-ground floors of Bobst. A team of six depositors placed eggs throughout Bobst on Sunday morning.
We asked these two graduating seniors about the genesis and end goals of the hunt.
What sparked the idea for a hunt?
It’s a plan that has been brewing for a year or so, after a friend told us that she’d never had an Easter egg hunt growing up. The idea evolved from having a small hunt in someone’s apartment, to having it outside at the park, to having it at Bobst and inviting as many people as possible. From there we had all these ideas about marketing and slogans and graphics and it spiraled! It consumed us!
What was in the eggs? And the golden egg?
What’s Easter without candy? As for the golden eggs — that’s for the lucky recipients to know.
This hasn’t happened before in NYU’s history. How was the turnout? Is this something you’d like to continue at NYU as a tradition?
We have no idea if this has been done before. We just kind of made it up and ran with it.
In terms of the turnout…there were groups that came in their Easter best, wearing bunny ears and running around looking for the eggs. Most of the team members are graduating, but we do plan to pass the torch and we think next year there should be 2,000 eggs! And we’re going to hide them in more difficult places!
Why did you guys decide to do this?
The BOBSTer Egg Hunt was ultimately meant to bring people together at NYU. (There was some element of senior pranking in there too.) We wanted everybody to come to the event, and have fun together and share the experience — especially in a place not normally associated with having fun! For a school like NYU where everyone seems really disconnected and focused on their own goal, Bobst is our shared space and we all have it in common, and we’re all kids at heart.
We definitely consider this Mission: Accomplished.
