Live Blog
Although freshman Zoë Hoetzel studies Film and Television at the Tisch School of the Arts, she is a photographer at heart.
The 18-year-old, who has photographed for Next modeling agency in Los Angeles, is already a pro behind the
camera. It is her talent and passion for photography that pushed Hoetzel to start a photography blog called Sexy Stupid last February.
Hoetzel started the blog after she photographed the opening “Terrywood,” fashion photographer Terry Richardson’s gallery, earlier this year.
“I decided to start a blog to document events, photo shoots, intriguing people [and] obsessions,” Hoetzel said.
The contents of Sexy Stupid are a mix of fashion shots featuring models who are Hoetzel’s personal friends and pictures documenting the blogger’s life in Los Angeles, Calif.
“The name is the epitome of what Los Angeles is,” Hoetzel said. “Think about it. Paris Hilton, so sexy, but so stupid. Juice Fads, so sexy, but so stupid.”
One post on the blog shows supermodel Hanne Gaby Odiele leaving an Alexander Wang show. Another shows Hoetzel and her younger sister dressed up for a gay pride parade. It is this diversity and versatility that draws so many viewers to the blog.
“‘Sexy Stupid’ is a melting pot full of cool pictures,” said CAS freshman Haley Steinberg, who follows the blog. “It’s eccentric enough to always offer something new.”
For Hoetzel, the blog serves as a creative outlet that she hopes will be as much fun for her viewers to read as it is for her to photograph and write.
Like any other long-term creative project, Sexy Stupid constantly goes through changes and transformations. Hoetzel has begun to incorporate more pictures than words since its start in February, and the blogger promises more to come.
Hoetzel said her experience in New York has changed her blog.
“Moving from the suburbs of Calabasas to New York City has definitely changed my vision and objective for Sexy Stupid,” she said.
Although Hoetzel is unsure of the exact direction the blog is heading, she hopes to use it to display her work and engage readers.
“My aim in blogging is to entertain,” Hoetzel said. “I want to present a window into mine and other people’s Sexy Stupid lives with the occasional social commentary.”
