Billy Reid showcased his skills and talents in tailored menswear with a certain Southern casualness. With handmade looks in a myriad of materials from linen to leather, Reid presented a form of high art that just simply works.
One of the first looks was a beautiful men’s brown linen herringbone double-breasted suit that is well crafted and an example of beauty in menswear. Reid continued this theme of double-breasted suits and blazers throughout the show, including his final show-stopping double-breasted dinner jacket, which by itself is awe-inspiring but paired with a charcoal striped trouser, white oxford shirt and silk ascot was taken to the next level.
Another motif carried throughout the collection was the use of fun and playful animal prints in both the men and women’s clothing. The first was a gold linen hand-knitted pelican crew sweater that was joyful homage to vintage thrift-store awesomeness. A little later in the collection came an expertly cut silk pelican shirtdress that would be on the top of any sophisticated yet fun-loving woman’s need for spring.
Lastly, Reid once again exceled in his delivery of bespoken tailored pants that fit snuggly on both men’s and women’s bodies. Particularly interesting was his refreshing black and white cross-hatch hand-tailored trousers and his woman’s chocolate pant suit.
While spring is usually thought of as the time to bring back the bright, neon colors, Reid shows that spring is more a time of celebration of warm earth tones in golds, browns, tans and, yes, charcoals with pops of color, pattern and the occasional white trouser.
