As a young, upcoming designer, Tsemaye Binitie brings a fresh perspective to the fashion world with his Spring 2013 collection, which combined laser-cut fabrics, cutouts, layers and pops of color and sparkle that added edge to timeless pieces for the quintessential woman.
By reinventing classic pieces like the trench coat, platform heel, jean and even tracksuit, Binitie keeps the line relevant and rooted in his own personal style. He also played with the idea of “revealing and not revealing”. His twist on the trench was proof of this unexpected detail, where a section on the back of the coat was cut out. Boot cut jeans were also a refreshing alternative to skinny jeans, and in a virbrant blue hue they are perfect for spring. Sportswear even made an appearance with a mixed-fabric tracksuit, giving a nod to its hip-hop inspiration.
In one of his more dramatic pieces, Binitie revealed an over-the-top red dress made from 14 meters of fabric. But despite the fanciful feel of the dress, Binitie made sure to keep his designs wearable, lining a bomber jacket and trench with latex for ultimate versatility. In the end, Binitie says he just wants to make “cool clothes for beautiful women”.
