DIY: Create a colorful holiday scarf

Materials
• Two shirts
• Scissors
• Marker
• Needle and thread

Justyna Torres for WSN

1. Pick out two different-colored, oversized shirts or shirts you no longer wear. For the holidays I am using red and green. Make sure they are knit fabrics and not woven sweater material. Lay them out on a flat surface.

2. Start with one shirt. With a marker, draw two parallel, horizontal lines: one under the armpits of the shirt and the other just above the hem at the bottom of the shirt.

3. Cut along these lines, making sure you are cutting both the front and back of the shirts. You can discard the top half of the shirt and the hem. The remnants should resemble a circle scarf.

4. Stretch and pull the fabric so that the circle is more relaxed and loose.

5. Repeat steps two through four with the second shirt.

6. Lay down the two circle scarves next to each other to determine which one
is bigger.

7. On the smaller scarf, find one side of the stitching and carefully cut the thread holding it together to make it one long piece of fabric.

9. When the fabric is twisted around the whole scarf, sew up the two ends and cut off any excess material.

10. Style with a little black dress for a holiday party or with any outfit for a festive look.
