Cross Country
The NYU men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Jasper Fall XC Invitational on Saturday in Montgomery, NY. Both teams were faster than all other Division III schools that competed, and scored higher than four D-I schools.
The No. 12-ranked men’s team placed ninth out of 16 in the 8K, where senior Shaurya Srivastava placed 21st out of 179 runners to lead the Violets and first-year James Jenkins was the next Violet finisher in 28th place.
The No. 4-ranked women’s team placed eighth out of 16 in the 6K at the meet hosted by Manhattan College — sophomores Lindsay Guthrie and Katharine Frank paced NYU, as both finished in the top 40 of 177 runners.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action on Friday, Oct. 3, where they will compete in the Paul Short Invite at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.
Golf
The men’s and women’s golf teams started their 2025-26 seasons on Monday, Sept. 8 at the UAA Championship at the Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia, OH.
The men’s team suffered 4-2 defeats to both No. 9-ranked Carnegie Mellon and No. 21-ranked University of Rochester. First-year Qi Liu was the only Violet to win both of his matchups.
The next day, NYU finished play with a matchup against No. 3-ranked Emory University, losing 4.5-1.5. First-year Oscar Uribe secured the only victory for the Violets, who ended the men’s UAA Championship in fourth place.
The No. 10-ranked women’s team upset both the top-ranked Emory University and the No. 3-ranked Washington University in St. Louis. Against Emory, the Violets won five matchups and tied one.
NYU tied Carnegie Mellon University 3-3 on day two of the championship. Following a dominant first day, the result was enough to secure NYU its first women’s UAA Championship since 2019.
Senior Tiya Chowdary was named tournament MVP.
The men’s team also competed at the Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College at Ralph Myhre Golf Club in Middlebury, VT, on Sept. 13 and 14.
NYU ranked 12th out of 20 with a +26 team score, before the final round of competition on Sunday.
The women’s team continued its momentum on day one of the NCAA Preview — finishing third out of 15 teams on Saturday at the Firecliff Course at Desert Willow Golf Club in Palm Desert, CA.
First-year Jiayi Fu tied with three other golfers for the best individual score with a -3 on Saturday.
Soccer
The NYU men’s soccer team lost 2-1 to Stockton University on Monday, Sept. 8 at its home stadium, Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium in Newark, NJ.
The chippy game had nine total cards given out, including four yellows before halftime. Stockton had a player sent off for a second yellow with 10 minutes left in the match.
Senior defender Felix Dyckerhoff scored in the second half to bring the game even at 1-1, but a late Stockton goal was not matched by NYU — bringing the team’s record to 0-3 on the season.
NYU returned to its home pitch on Sunday against Misericordia University.
The No. 17-ranked NYU women’s soccer team played its final match of the TCNJ Classic in Ewing, NJ — drawing 0-0 against Arcadia University on Sunday, Sept. 7.
Sophomore goalkeeper Mia Capo oversaw the Violets’ stout defensive effort, keeping her second clean sheet in as many games.
The Violets’ next match ended in a 1-0 victory against Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ on Wednesday. Senior defender Elizabeth Argenziano scored the only goal of the match off a corner kick delivered by senior forward Yukino Wakatsuki.
The women’s team returns to play against William Paterson University at home on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Volleyball
The No. 22-ranked NYU women’s volleyball team picked up a win and a loss at the NYU Invitational on Saturday at the Paulson Center.
In a back-and-forth battle, NYU dropped the first match to Christopher Newport University 25-19, 14-25, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-13. Sophomore hitter Chloe Hynes led NYU with 17 kills.
In the second match of the day, the Violets were able to pick up a victory against Montclair State University, winning 23-25, 25-14, 25-12 and 25-19. Junior hitter Chloe Lemons paced NYU with 12 kills, while senior setter Ava Launsbach led the team with 29 assists.
The Violets’ next matchup is against Ithaca College at the Ithaca College Invitational on Friday, Sept. 19.
