Cibani’s Spring Summer 2014 Collection revealed the designer’s adoration for volume in clothing as well as variety in a pastel color palette. Beginning with an entirely black cotton poplin shirt paired with a black raffia skirt on the first model Nykhor, the collection appeared to be primarily dark colors. However, as the show proceeded, color was introduced. The models wore relatively light, nude makeup so as to complement the airiness of Cibani’s collection. The models’ hair was styled in an updo with colored fabric intertwined with the use of braids in their hair.
As the final model stepped onto the runway in nude platform heels, the audience gazed in awe at the bisque duchesse-inspired satin dress with an ornate salmon-colored collar jacket. This final piece concluded the presentation beautifully, reminding us all of Cibani’s keen eye for shape as well as volume.
Cibani’s presentation of this seasons collection, located in the Paul Kasmin Gallery on West 27th St., included a whimsical popsicle stand located outside of the venue named “The Newyorkina” which she found on the Highline, as well as a unique orange and blue spray-painted runway. To top it all off, the floor was adorned in assorted colors of confetti ranging from purple to orange to blue.
At the conclusion of the show, Cibani interacted with the audience, among which was Keenya Hill, 2nd runner up on Cycle Four of America’s Next Top Model.
