Reem Acra showed her mastery of both ready-to-wear and evening looks in her Spring 2013 collection.
Acra’s 37 look collection seamlessly flowed from tough but stylish day wear to ultra-feminine evening gowns.
The influence of artist Aaron Young’s series of motorcycle inspired works was clear: smooth leather paired with delicates like silk and crepe satin created sophisticated biker-meets-boardroom styles. With details like laser cutouts and a touch of sequins, a piece worn during the day could effortlessly roll over to night.
With evening wear, Accra impressed with slinky gowns, geometric cut materials, and signature embellishment. Not only did evening boast luxurious gowns, but a few jumpsuits and pajama pant suits, as well, for ladies looking to shake traditional looks. While jumpsuits often miss the mark, Accra pulled it off with signature tailoring and feminine touches.
This season’s color palate was primarily comprised of classic midnight navy and white. With the exception of a stunningly subtle recurring ivory to pink ombre, any color usage was bold. Standouts included a stoplight green leather shell and a long sleeved, China red dress.
Like many shows this season, Reem Acra’s missteps occurred in attempts to stray from their signature look. A few pieces featured details like completely cut out side panels framed with gold embroidery. Departures from the established romantic silhouettes and elaborate hand embroidery, they appeared more fit for showgirls than superstars.
Reem Acra is a hit on the red carpet, frequently worn by stars like Taylor Swift and Madonna. Evening pieces like an ivory to pink ombre beaded gown and a cap sleeved, delicately beaded chiffon gown are sure to stun with awards season fast approaching.
