Well-known for bright, daring designs, Stacey Bendet’s label Alice + Olivia did not disappoint at the winter presentation. Held at the High Line Stages, just a few doors down from the label’s store, the event was as fun as the designs.
Kaelen Haworth’s Fall/Winter collection mirrored her previous collection’s soft and light aesthetic, while also adding in a heavier element. Haworth incorporated light fabrics like organza, silk, and linen with heavier fabrics like jacquard pleats, leather, and knits. The incorporation of both light and heavy fabrics in each piece gave a toughness and edginess to each model, while still making them look fresh and youthful.

Inspired by the dazzling yellow hues that decorate the interior of the Olive Town Courthouse, Lucio Castro’s Fall/Winter 2013 menswear line employed copious stripes and color blocking. The clothes consisted of mostly neutral tones, occasionally flashing a primary colored detailed. During the presentation, the models lined up in front of and behind two large pieces of yellow cellophane, which looked somewhat like hugely magnified caution tape. Each girl strutted confidently while music by Ryan Smith played in the background.

Vivienne Tam’s Fall/Winter 2013 collection debuted in red, white, and black with thumping electronica, full of allusions to both American and Chinese pop culture and politics. Citing the punk movement and pop art as influences for this collection’s look, Tam presented an array of strong but feminine, 1960s-esque sheath dresses and shirt-dresses juxtaposed with boxier shirts with a distinctly militant feel. Shiny-heeled boots as well as heels with ankle straps complimented the varied silhouettes of the clothing.
