In the past couple of seasons, peplums have become an increasingly popular trend found in shirts, skirts and dresses. However, if worn incorrectly, peplums can make you look old — or worse. To help coordinate a flawless look, pair peplums with the right pieces for every occasion.
For Work:
Day: Because peplums have structure, they can make a professional staple top for a job or internship to stand out with style. Choose a peplum top with a higher neckline in a soft color and pair it with a black pencil skirt and matching pumps. Add a black blazer to keep the outfit tight and neat. It never hurts to liven up the outfit, so include a colorful statement necklace to the look.
Night: Peplums are great transitioning pieces between day and night — that structure can be transformed to something flirty. If you’re going to a work event, try a peplum dress in a bold color, royal blue or crimson red. To keep your outfit work-appropriate, pair it with mid-heel Mary Janes and a velvet cardigan or fur vest. Style the look with some dangly earrings and a matching clutch.
For A Day Off:
Day: Choose a peplum in a comfortable fabric like jersey or cotton for a casual day with friends. Look for fun elements like an exposed zipper and opt for a bright color, like green or pink. Pair with some light wash skinny jeans or shorts. If you want a bolder look, swap the skinny jeans for some patterned floral or paisley pants. Add on a cross-body bag and sunglasses to keep your casual look.
Night: For a flirtier look, choose a peplum shirt with a different cut, like a halter or strapless top for an edge. Pair the top with a printed bodycon skirt, high-waisted denim shorts or a pleated skirt. Add on neon-colored heels and jewelry to finish the outfit.
