Brandon Sun Spring/Summer 2013

Insouciance, the Spring/Summer 2013 collection by designer Brandon Sun, demonstrates a true artistry and craft for carefree and sophisticated style. Sun’s presentation in The Box at Lincoln Center showcased twenty fresh-faced models.

Their nude lips, neutral smoky eyes, and minimal blush on the apples of their cheeks, and their pulled-back yet free-flowing buns and ponytails, done by Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door Spas complemented Sun’s upscale and modern designs. Sounds of soulful music lilt through the setting.

Brandon Sun, who has worked for luxury brands J. Mendel and Oscar de La Renta, and collaborated with Blackgama on the “What Makes a Legend Most?” campaign with Janet Jackson, exhibited beautiful and graceful ready-to-wear and couture pieces for the modern woman on the go. Inspired from a poem by Daisetz Suzuki, which exemplifies Sun’s philosophy on life and approach toward design, these looks radiate Zen culture and a sense of elegant nonchalance. The colors of line exuded a place of sanctuary, with smoky greys, whites, pearl, charcoal, navy, sapphire, as well as an azure tioman print.

Sun also incorporated geometric cherry blossoms, assymetrical cuts, and gorgeous racer backs into his designs. His looks were minimally accessorized, featuring statement bracelets by Michael Schmidt, white or grey elephant suede belts, nude and black pumps by Jean-Michele Cazabat, as well as with clutch handbags from Stalvey by Jason Stalvey.

His collection also showcased luxurious and on-trend separates, which included raffia coats, flowy silk crepe trousers, lace tanks, mink and cashmere cardigans, fox vests, as well as structurally draped dresses and chiffon gowns. Overall, Sun achieved tailored, polished and groundbreaking looks, which captured his insouciant sense of style.
