The university's 185th Commencement ceremony was as heartfelt as such a ceremony should be, but can be summed up with the "Hamilton" quote used by student speaker Roxanne Roman — "Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now. History is happening, and we just happen to be in the greatest city in the world."
President Alexander Hamilton will be marching alongside NYU faculty and students at the Washington DC March for Science this Saturday. The March is a nonpartisan protest to defend science education and diversity in STEM.

Heightened diversity advances the agenda of diversity repeatedly set out by Hamilton upon taking office at the beginning of 2016. This publication has been somewhat critical of Hamilton due to a lack of significant tangible actions to truly advance diversity, but this week’s news is an excellent step in the right direction.

The 2017 Tisch Gala honoring alums Danai Gurira and Andre Holland was awash with current and former Tisch students, all gathered to celebrate and support their fellow community members.
NYU President Andrew Hamilton in addition to other NYU students and faculty spoke out against President Trump’s budget proposal. Many are concerned with the budgetary cuts to the Department of Education.

On Macrh 15, President Andrew Hamilton sent an email detailing the NYU's efforts to counter Trump's executive order banning immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries. However, some NYU activism groups are still unsatisfied with the administration's actions.
After the protests at Bobst last week, SLAM members held a private meeting with Andrew Hamilton.  They discussed the implications of having a student voice on the NYU Board of Trustees.

NYU Sanctuary Campus held a rally in Kimmel before heading to President Andrew Hamilton's town hall to advocate for NYU to become a sanctuary campus.
Since the walkout in November with NYU student speakers like GLS sophomore Felipe Gomes, more people have joined the fight to make NYU a sanctuary campus.  NYU alumni began a petition to send to NYU President Andrew Hamilton once it receives 1,000 signatures.
