Leanne Marshall’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection opened with a series of soft gray gowns. The varying necklines — ranging from plunging V’s to halter necks, and one-shoulder gowns with double straps — brought variety to the monochromatic looks.
A group of drapey, taupe silk chiffon pieces followed, glowing in the bright lights of the Skylight Clarkson Square runway. Textured cream lace tops and skirts contrasted the color blocked garments, while a bold red backless gown caught the eyes of attendees. Though a set of silk gazar garments had an out-of-place black and white lace-like print, they were saved by the timeless, crisp construction that Marshall is known for.
Models’ looks were complemented by braided updos and ponytails, while more neutral eyeshadow shades were in harmony with the collection’s colors. Red lipstick popped, and funky fringed earrings created interest.
Perhaps the most standout looks from the Project Runway Season Five winner’s collection were the final ones that featured delicate black beading and embroidery. Muted tan silk chiffon gowns were accented with flapper-esque details that added a touch of old world glamor to the otherwise flowy silhouettes.
