Self-proclaimed "deplorable" LS professor Michael Rectenwald is suing NYU and four professors for defamation. The basis of the suit is a series of department-wide emails from last May, in which he was called a racist and sexist, among other things.
oSTEM is an international organization that supports the Queer and Trans community in the STEM fields and works to create safe spaces on campus for these students.

Regardless of whether or not these feelings of hostility have been embellished or exaggerated, strict labeling and rejection of Trump supporters and the swirl of media that has ensued is detrimental to NYU, an institution renowned for its free speech, social movements and debate.
The way that protesters at the University of Missouri have used safe spaces as a cudgel against journalists is counterproductive to their movement. They are antagonizing the single best medium for their message to get across.
Universities must not betray their ideals of introducing students to opinions different from their own by sanitizing important discussions at the university.
