NYU alumnus, Katie Ermilio has come a long way from the days she once spent designing clothes for her father’s clients in Philadelphia. Ermilio debuted her Spring 2013 collection for a private press viewing in her Upper West Side studio during New York Fashion Week.

Throughout Ermilio’s entire collection, the element of feminine sophistication developed itself through sleek lines and girly accents. Bow adorned tops and drop waist gowns were the perfect combination of glamour and refinement.

A standout feature of Ermilio’s Spring 2013 line was the use of a striped double-faced satin fabric to create elegant pieces that came to be the focus of her collection. These pieces, either in pearl and navy or pearl and black, with stripes of all sizes going horizontally, vertically, and diagonally, were sleek and timeless.

“I started with the fabric. I fell in love with the stripes and bought them in every color that was offered, and then I built the collection around that.” Ermilio said.

Although the collection was dominated by the satin stripes, Ermilio still featured pieces in hues such as mustard and poppy red, made of silk jersey, with a versatile look that could go from day to evening.

When asked how she would describe her Spring 2013 collection, Ermilio considered it to be “luxurious but relaxed.” “You can just slip it on and go run out the door. [The collection] is transitional,” Ermilio stated.
