Lil Uzi Vert was likely the mystery performer of the now rescheduled Violet 100 Concert.

Every year, students wait excitedly for NYU’s Program Board to announce the much-anticipated performer for its Violet 100 Concert. With a history of securing musicians like Chance the Rapper, Future and 21 Savage, hopes were high for this year’s announcement.

However, instead of releasing the name a few weeks before the concert like in the past, the Program Board posted on its Facebook that the Violet 100 Concert set for Feb. 15 at Terminal 5 had been rescheduled.

Although NYUPB did not confirm the name of the artist it was working with — only that there was a last-minute scheduling conflict that prevented the concert from happening — Tandon junior Michael Jide, who was being considered as an opener for the concert and is close with members of NYUPB, said rapper Lil Uzi Vert was more than likely the mystery performer.

“At the public audition, it was damn near confirmed and well assumed by every artist in the vicinity that we were auditioning to open for Lil Uzi Vert,” Jide said.

Lil Uzi Vert’s managers did not respond to a request for comment.

Jide also pointed to the Program Board’s social media campaign for the concert as evidence that Lil Uzi Vert was supposed to perform.

“[The] first clue came from the hints that the Program Board gave concerning who may be performing for the Violet 100,” Jide said. “The most memorable was a picture of the word ‘XO,’ and only two people are really associated with that: The Weeknd and Lil Uzi Vert.”

Teaser posts promoting the event have since been taken down from the Program Board’s Instagram page, and the Facebook event for the concert was also deleted.

Jide said his friends within Program Board gave him information on which artists were being considered.

“Acts like Tyler, the Creator, Migos and Lil Uzi Vert were of discussion,” Jide said.

Program Board President and Clive Davis senior Henry Lyons said that the name of the mystery performer couldn’t be released because artists can’t be named without a fully executed contract. He also said that although Violet 100 week is over, the show will go on.

“We’re taking the budget originally meant for the concert and using it to book another show,” Lyons said. “I can’t say much yet — other than how excited I am about the artists we’re looking at — but I will say to keep the evening of April 5 clear in your calendar.”
