The Ceremony Fall/Winter 2018 show brought it all, including collections from designers Hogan McLaughlin, Mimi Prober, and Lamine Kouyaté of XULY.Bët, as well as a Vodoun Ceremony complete with drummers, singers, practitioners and an elaborately decorated altar.

Kelly Cutrone of People’s Revolution directed the Ceremony. Inspired by the #MeToo movement, she embraced the Vodoun Ceremony to call back on “the ancient feminine in her true form.”

The opening look of the show was also most notable in the Mimi Prober Collection, with patchwork in an assortment of colors that stood out from the natural hues found throughout the rest of the collection. Intricate beadwork and quilting enhanced many looks, along with sheer lace that created a nice harmony with the natural colors of the textiles.

Hogan McLaughlin’s Collection continued the exposure with plenty of unique cutouts. A gunmetal sequin dress took it to the next level, baring skin from all angles. The majority of the looks were either black, gunmetal or off-white and embellished with sequins, side pockets and zipper detail.  

While the first half of the show may have longed for a bit of bright color, Lamine Kouyaté of XULY.Bët brought it. The traditional suit was brought to life with bold prints of various hues, which extended into puffer coats, bomber jackets and athleisure pants. Black fishnet socks peeked out from metallic heels, which complemented the shine found throughout the looks. Neon animal print leggings may have pushed the limits, but contributed to the funky aesthetic of the brand.

Models donned dark eyes with natural hair. Rather than exit the stage after their walk, they lined up beside the Vodoun Ceremony, offering an extended display of each collection.  

The Ceremony ultimately delivered a truly unique experience to the runway, uniting three distinct collections under the same beat.
