With the debut of his spring 2013 collection, Stephen Burrows celebrates his 46th year of being a designer at THE OUT NYC. A-list celebrities from Jimi Hendrix to Chelsea Handler have been spotted in Stephen Burrow’s design, and this year, Barbie can be added to the list. Stephen Burrows designed a showgirl-esque Barbie doll complete with rhinestones and white feathers named, Pazette. The doll as long as the spring collection presentation was held within a mirrored box lined with artificial grass called the Green Lawn at the popular city resort.
Models walked among the heard of paparazzi and stood on wooden cartons to pose for pictures. In usual Stephen Burrows fashion, his garments were colorful and loud. Burrows used both solid and wild patterned fabrics in bright turquoise, red, fuchsia, and more. The color palette was through the roof in this collection. Even the threading of the garments were vibrant as he used red thread to stitch along the hemline. Burrows took a particularly unusual turn with color by using different tones of piping around the neck line of a few of the dresses
Inspired by the natural curves of a woman’s body, Burrows paid tribute to the shoulders and hips in his design with draping and cut-outs. He followed an asymmetrical design aesthetic and took cues with the high waisted pants from the vibes of the 1970’s. Stephen Burrows collection evokes fun and creativity; even his models were dancing and having a good time because it’s what the brand is known for.
