Custo Barcelona lit up New York Fashion Week at his Fall/Winter 2017 show. Designer Custo Dalmau’s collection, “Light Years,” was an homage to “individuality, and shining the light,” according to the show notes.
This theme was made clear as metallics, bright colors, bold prints and patterns ruled the runway. Wide-leg trousers with metallic finishes, sparkly mini dresses and oversized jackets covered in colorful stones made an appearance. This mish mosh of colors, patterns and textures worked on the runway most of time.
Some standout pieces included an oversized, blue metallic motorcycle jacket with frills paired with a matching minidress. Another minidress, this time fuchsia, embossed with metal glitter and paired with patent-leather thigh high boots also stood out.
It’s possible that Dalmau had fashion’s it-girls, like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner in mind when designing his collection, especially when it came to his leggy numbers. A shiny, patent-leather minidress paired with a puffy silver bomber jacket seemed like a classic Hadid outfit.
Though Dalmau stuck to what he knows, in terms of playing with colors and prints, his collection felt fresh and unique. Overall, the pieces were cool and funky — perfect for a night out with friends. Indeed, there’s no such thing as a statement piece when it comes to Custo Barcelona. Every piece in the collection was truly special and spoke for itself. Dalmau went for individuality this season, and he nailed it.
