The music of Michael Magnan set a whimsical tone that proved quite fitting for Russian designer Katya Leonovich’s imaginative collection. Much like in Leonovich’s previous lines, her artistic background shone through her designs in a very characteristic way: with pinned up, windswept hair and an abundance of ruffles and drapery, the dominating theme on the runway today was movement. Dresses remained short and accentuated at the waist, while layered fabrics gave a light yet voluminous look. Draped blouses and dresses provided flow and movement to an otherwise tailored style.
In terms of color, the spring line blends pastels with neutrals; specifically pink with taupe, blue with silver, and purple with pewter. While the first half of the show focused on these colors and neutrals, the second half of the show focused on sheen. Shimmery neutrals will once again be embraced this spring, as short, striking dresses showed off reflective shades of gunmetal, gold, and rose gold. Another trend that will be seen again this spring is watercolor, as Leonovich’s line made clear with its layered and textured watercolor dresses. Throughout the show, makeup, nails, and shoes remained neutral to keep the focus on the artistic aesthetic of the collection itself. Katya Leonovich has once again captured so many elements of art including form, color, and texture in this year’s spring collection in a way that only a true artist can.
