Cross Country
The No. 4-ranked men’s cross country team raced twice on Saturday at the Connecticut College Invitational in Waterford, CT.
The 8K White White Race ended with NYU, Tufts University and Williams College tied in first out of 37 teams. Due to tie-breaking rules, NYU placed second behind Tufts.
First-year Greg Borden led NYU with a fourth place finish out of 364 runners with a time of a time of 25:18.19.
In the 8K Blue Blue Race, the Violets finished fourth out of 34 teams. Junior Liam Hagerty finished in fourth place out of 264 runners with a time of 24:11.83.
The No. 1-ranked women’s cross country team also competed in two races on Saturday in Waterford.
The Violets placed fifth in the 6K White White Race out of 33 teams, with first-year Paisley Piepgras finishing sixth out of 342 runners with a time of 22:33.3. In the 6K Blue Blue Race, the Violets also finished in fifth — junior Josephine Dziedzic was NYU’s top finisher, placing third out of 261 runners with a time of 20:42.79.
Both the men’s and women’s teams return to action for the UAA Championship in Edwardsville, IL on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Soccer
The men’s soccer team lost 6-3 to No. 3-ranked Emory University on Saturday in Atlanta.
The Violets had a strong first half, leading 3-2 at the break, but a disastrous second half saw Emory score four unanswered goals that confirmed defeat for the Violets.
NYU’s goals were scored by junior Keyon Namdar, senior Terra Nagai and graduate student Giulio Potenti.
The No. 6-ranked women’s soccer team was also defeated on Saturday, losing 4-0 to No. 2-ranked Emory University.
Sophomore goalkeeper Mia Capo recorded 10 saves in the match.
Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams return to play on Friday, Oct. 24 at home against Carnegie Mellon University.
Tennis
Sophomore Victoria Wang of the women’s tennis team played at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Cup last week in Rome, GA.
After a first round defeat on Thursday, Wang bounced back with a 5-7, 7-5 and 6-3 victory against Lucy Nabedrick of Trinity University. Two days later, Wang was unable to finish her third and final match following an early deficit.
The Violets return to play in the spring season on Sunday, Feb. 21, when they take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at home.
Volleyball
The women’s volleyball team soundly defeated Hunter College 25-12, 25-14 and 25-21 to end the Tear It Up! Fall Fest celebration at the Paulson Center over the weekend.
Junior outside hitter Grace Nelson had her 1,000th career kill in the victory. First-year outside hitter Casey Cho led the Violets with seven kills.
The next day, the Violets won a closely contested match against Kean University in five sets. After claiming the first set 25-17, the team dropped the second and third 26-24 and 25-20 before rallying to win the fourth and fifth sets 25-22 and 15-8. Nelson had 15 kills to lead NYU.
The Violets ended the weekend against Williams College. Each set was close, but NYU was defeated 26-24, 25-21 and 25-20. Junior setter Alden Roberts had 16 assists in the loss.
The Violets next face Case Western Reserve University on Sunday, Oct. 26, in Chicago for the UAA Round Robin #3.
