Kania S/S 2018

Debuting its first collection for New York Fashion Week, Canadian brand Kania blurred the line between athletic wear and couture in a style that can only be described as “athluxury”.

During a brief interview with head designer Stacey Bafi-Yeboa, she said that the aim of the collection is to empower women by combining comfort and style.

With looks that could be worn from your local SoulCycle straight to a cocktail lounge, she did not fall short of her objective. From hoodies converted into bodycon dresses to sports bras worn under athletic fabric gowns, this collection reimagines sportswear.

Every piece was crafted from bamboo microfabric, and mimics the cuts and proportions of leisure apparel. The details on the garments also embody an athletic aesthetic —  zippers, hoods and deep pockets were prevalent throughout the collection. Yet somehow, these looks work as elegant wrap-dresses, jumpsuits and full-length formal dresses. It’s time to toss aside the age old mantra “beauty is pain” as Kania’s unique, versatile and modern Spring/Summer 2018 collection proves that comfort can be beautiful.
