Nanette Lepore, a fashion week favorite known for her use of expressive prints and bold colors, presented an otherworldly Fall/Winter 2013 show at the Stage at Lincoln Center, themed “Nanette on Mars.” The designer displayed ready-to-wear pieces in deep colors with striking iridescent accents, lively prints and textured materials.
Among the stand out aspects of Lepore’s show were the shimmery blue-green and gold, or pink and gold hologram accessories. The iridescent material covered handbags, belts and sky-high heels worn by the models as they strutted down the runway sporting alien-like hairstyles — slick ponytails and buns with pieces of hair flying out of them.
Many of the elegant yet edgy pieces were presented in black, army green or dark purple, embellished with textured materials or intricate gold beading. The winter jackets, some in deep purple leather and others in thickly padded, green and blue patterned material, were particularly striking. Other notable standouts included a short, olive green dress with bold cut-outs and inlaid lace, and a dark, pink and purple graphic floral dress with triangular cut-outs at the shoulder.
