Which NYC neighborhood are you?
Whether you’re addicted to early morning pilates or known for belting your face off, there’s a New York City neighborhood made for you.

Each New York City neighborhood has a very distinct, specific vibe. Just by walking a few blocks, you can find yourself traversing an entirely different world with a whole new set of characters. Some areas are defined by skyscrapers and Sweetgreens while others are known for their quaint cobblestone streets and brick-and-mortar cafes. As two students who have lived in the city for three years, we’re here to tell you which neighborhood you’re spiritually aligned with.
The West Village
If you felt personally attacked by The Cut’s “It Must be Nice to be a West Village Girl,” then, well, you probably are one. You’re probably a regular at 7 a.m. Solidcore and know how to rock a slicked-back ponytail. While some may consider your need to take 100 photos to get the perfect one as vain, you’re simply building your brand as downtown’s latest up-and-coming influencer. In a neighborhood as beautiful as the West Village, who can blame you for wanting to capture the moment?
The East Village
Have you ever guffawed at the line outside of Schmuck, and do you cure your weekend hangovers with a walk through Tompkins Square Park? If so, you’re a bona fide East Villain. Like this eccentric, historic neighborhood, you’re always down for a good time, whether that’s getting a random piercing on St. Marks Place or wandering into a vintage store and chatting it up with the owner for hours. At night, I just know you tear up on a dance floor, becoming the life of the party under bubble guns at Wiggle Room on Avenue A. Here’s some advice for you thrill seekers: Don’t forget about all your responsibilities in the morning.
The Financial District
To those of you who already have a post-grad job offer at J.P. Morgan, you shouldn’t be shocked to learn you’re the Financial District. You probably catch yourself scrolling through Linkedin during your free time or eating Cava for lunch every day. A casual outfit to you includes dress shoes, a tie and an immense amount of hair gel. While you may be a bit too intense about your five-year plan, your dedication to the grind is applaudable. Since work is life to you, it makes perfect sense that you’d be the neighborhood that you’ll end up working in.
The Theater District
If you find yourself constantly advertising your upcoming 54 Below show on your Instagram story, then you may very well be the Theater District. You’re a ScholasTix warrior, and will gladly cap off a long day of studio by seeing a Broadway show — undoubtedly picturing yourself in the lead role. Your wall is probably covered in signed Playbills and your favorite pastime is harmonizing with Clark On Stage. While Times Square may be overstimulating for some, you relish in the idea of having your name in lights on a 42nd Street Marquee.
Bushwick
This one’s for the Brooklynites out there. Bushwick is truly the butt of the borough’s joke, but that doesn’t mean you’re not oozing with charm. You probably have coffee plans at 10 a.m. and a gallery opening to hit up at 12 p.m., with plenty of time to post your every waking thought on X in between. Maybe you watched “Girls” a little too early in life and declared yourself a Shoshanna — which is such a Hannah move, by the way — but we love you all the same for it. We could definitely find some dirt on your old Tumblr account from 2016, or at least your favorite lyric from The 1975’s album “I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It.”
Staten Island
Yes, you’re the whole borough. Staten Island is for the people who are still tight with their friend group from high school and get half-priced Applebee’s appetizers with them on Thanksgiving break. You believe Ubers and big orange boats are the best form of public transportation and you got angry about the snowballs thrown at the New York City Police Department. Tony Soprano may share several similarities to your uncle, and he once gifted you a tank top stained with marinara sauce for Columbus Day.
