These are some of my best friends from high school, taken on my film camera at a park in Toronto. Now that we go to universities in different countries, we try our best to still keep in contact. We finally met up this October after almost a year without seeing each other, and it felt as if no time had passed. I don’t think there was a moment when I wasn’t smiling on that trip.

My analog photography professor took our class to Coney Island for a field trip. I’m a complete novice at 35mm, so until this trip I’d been hyper-cautious and overly intentional with every photo I took. I often forget that college is supposed to be a time for experimentation and a place where mistakes are encouraged. This trip felt freeing. It let me relax, have fun and make some portraits of my classmates without the pressure for everything to look perfect.

On the fourth anniversary of Grand Street Pizza’s opening, I noticed this man by the bar. Everyone around him seemed to be celebrating and conversing, but he was focused on the TV. I took a picture of him, then noticed the reason for his somber mood. The Brooklyn Nets were playing.

This is one of my best friends from middle school, Yuhan, taken on film in the Municipal Rose Garden in San Jose, California. She spent the summer interning in Cupertino while I was up north in San Francisco with my family. Getting to spend those months with her was such a joy when in-person gatherings are becoming rarer with our busy college schedules in different cities.

One of my favorite parts of carrying a camera is being asked for portraits by strangers. The first was taken while exploring Lafayette, Indiana and the second was at the Westminster Dog Show.
Krish Dev, Digital Director

I don’t often take portraits, let alone capture direct eye contact. The two photos above — a goat in Pennsylvania and a cow in Liechtenstein — are exceptions. In these moments, the farm animals are looking back at me, creating a moment of shared perception.
