Mesh and sequins flooded the runway in Alejandro Gómez Palomo’s beautifully non-binary Fall/Winter 2019 line. Palomo has been in the business of reinventing menswear since the 2015 launch of Palomo Spain. The brightly colored dresses sported on the runway by the models are just the next installment in Palomo’s long history of reinvention.

The show commenced with a dazzling light show projected onto a black screen accompanied by booming music. As the lights lifted and the music lowered, the models began to appear.

Palomo brought the line back to his Spanish roots as the models strutted down the runway in a wave of red, a color that appeared in almost every piece and a motif in Spanish fashions. Whether fringing or dominating the fabric, Palomo’s affinity for bright color never failed.

Drawn to eroticism, Palomo’s line transition from elevated silky sleepwear to black mesh draped over shiny black speedos. Some outfits could even be called Victorian with their broad shoulders and mock-neck blouses.

His standout piece was the final look decked in PVC feathers lined a glossy black cape akin to that of a boa which draped over a sheer dress as the model opened his cape to give the audience a flash of the dress underneath.

Palomo’s line transcended the catwalk in a blaze of silk and tweed resulting in a roaring success as indicated by audience members who applauded the final walk through.
