Student Senators Panel: NYU 2031 primer

WSN will host a second panel discussion with representatives from the Student Senators Council on Thursday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. in room 405 of the Kimmel Center for University Life. The four student senators will participate in a moderated discussion on NYU 2031 and the Global Network University.

There will be a question-and-answer section opened to audience members and accessible by Twitter using the hashtag #askwsn.

The expansion plan was made public by NYU President John Sexton in 2007 to address the need for more academic space.

Greenwich Village residents have publicly spoken about their disapproval of the plan and filed a lawsuit against the city last year for approving the plan. A group of faculty also created the Faculty Against the Sexton Plan group to voice their opposition to increasing the university’s scope in Greenwich Village.

The Space Priorities Working Group was created in September 2012 to provide faculty and students the opportunity to analyze the plan and make recommendations to the administration about what they see as priorities. Some of the recommendations mentioned in the July 2013 Interim Report include keeping building construction close to the Core, or the area around Washington Square Park, and prioritizing classroom and lab space.

The WSN Staff will hold its second panel with members of the Student Senator Council on Thursday, Nov. 14. Let us know you are attending by RSVPing. Send questions to @nyunews and #askwsn.
