While the rest of fashion week caused a storm at Lincoln Center, Naomi Spindel calmly debuted her first collection, proudly showing it to her friends and the rest of the world.
Immediately after entering, the colors and textures scream for attention, popping out against the whitewashed walls. The upbeat music acted as the voices of the clothes: sassy and glamorous. There was a healthy dose of fuchsia and metallics complemented by bold black ribbon that acted not only as the closures for the dresses and tops but also as a frame for the loud fabrics. Here and there, skin peeking out from the outfits gave a modern feminine update to classic silhouettes that Naomi Spindel herself has been wearing for years. The hair and makeup drew inspiration from none other than Brigitte Bardot. The models worked defined brows paired with a subtle cat eye, and to finish it off, the lips were stained in a glossy magenta.
Naomi Spindel, when asked about her debut collection, spoke with eagerness about the start of her new adventure. She had “already made these silhouettes for herself” when people would constantly stop her on the street asking, “Where did you get that?” She wanted the collection to be “wearable” and “comfortable”, so she made her designs into a “one-size fits all” by having ribbon-tie closures, which function not only as adjusters for the size, but also adds a touch of the risqué to her pieces.
If anything, the presentation had the feel of a casual get-together filled with fabulous women in fun and flirty clothes. Naomi Spindel, draped in her own Aloha print dress, made her rounds as the happy hostess. This Spring/Summer 2014 collection represented a feminine and confident woman who is comfortable in her clothes and her skin, much like Naomi herself.
