Statement jewelry, bold accessories, and crazy hair and makeup? Christian Siriano’s Spring/Summer 2014 show was in no need of excessive accessories, and shoes were in and of themselves the statement pieces. As the models strutted to fun and upbeat music with their hair slicked back and minimal makeup, the audience was automatically drawn to the bold and colorful, yet elegant, masterpieces of Siriano.
Most of his clothing from this line was loose but cinched in at the waist which gave the clothing its sense of elegance. The collection also featured a number of fitted dresses; these pieces had a broad shoulder design that was able to create structure and dimension while maintaining the flow through peplum styled designs as well, which is appropriate for the season. Siriano stated that his collection “[celebrated] female form as seen through a romantic lens to capture a refreshingly young vibe.”
In regards to the colors of his spring and summer line, many pieces were composed of muted, neutral colors. However, these piece were not in muted, solid colors, but rather supported pattern and prints that gave the clothing a fun vibe, which suited the atmosphere of spring and summer months. Also, especially with the black and white clothing pieces, Siriano used stripes and zig-zag patterns to give the garments emphasis. Solid bright colors, such as yellow, orange and pinks, made an appearance as well. A recurring theme throughout the show was Siriano’s use of feathers, sequins and glitter on these solid-colored garments; this was able to subtly draw attention to the beauty of these clothes. Siriano’s use of floral patterns and bright warm colors was, without a doubt, able to represent that “young vibe” he aimed for.
Lastly, shoes that were matched with pieces from this line seemed to all be a very similar style, if not the same. It was a classic pump that correlated to the color of the clothing. However, some of these shoes had tassels which fitted nicely to the flowing style of the dresses. The shoes were subtle enough to not take away the attention from the clothing, but rather complemented the overall image.
