The soundtrack to Falguni and Shane Peacock’s autumn/winter 2013 could not have been better suited for the looks that walked down the runway. Model strutted out to the beats of violin classical music interweaved with an ear thumping dub-step rhythm. Not the most predictable of pairs. But for some reason, it just worked.
Unsurprisingly, the clothes themselves incorporated this stark contrast of a feminine elegance and a dark edginess, pleasantly complimenting each other to a T. Think 40’s silhouette inspired peplum cocktail dresses that were spruced up with dramatic pointed shoulders and silver metallic bodices that resembled armors. Gowns with costume-like feather accents and dripping in hand-embellished beading simultaneously featured leather accents and mesh cutouts.
Bold graphic prints evoked an Erté influence and were soften up with the juxtaposition of delicate lace and luxurious silk velvet. Again, Falguni and Shane chose to focus on the duality of soft versus hard through their use of masculine prints alongside classic girly fabrics. A particular stand out was the metallic jacquard suit jacket that had a 3D pop out illusion, giving the garment a baroque textile quality.
Sensual dark hues evoked a sense of mysterious sexiness. But while they composed the main palette for the collection, there was nonetheless still pops of brighter shades ranging from carnation and cobalt to sea green and violet.
A particular showstopper was a black sequined sweetheart dress with feather trim worn under a graphic print coat featuring feathered sleeves. The finale beaded gowns were complete mouth-dropping pieces of their own. The black embellished gown with the sheer cutouts will undoubtedly be seen on the next daring red-carpet grazer.
Falguni and Shane Peacock’s most recent collection is for the brave soul. She is the strong, wild and audacious woman whose sensuality and femininity refuses to be sacrificed.
