Fashion Week F/W 2018 Highlights

February 20, 2018

Every time New York Fashion Week swings back around, it is impossible not to find yourself in a state of inspiration. In this artistic and cultural hub that we call home, NYFW brings together some of the most creative minds from across the country, in a week-long showcase of their hard work and innovation. With each new season debuting some of the industry’s most cutting-edge designs, NYFW has always held a special significance and weight. Fashion week is — and has always been — the ultimate celebration of all that fashion’s greatest minds have to offer.

While some might try to write fashion week off as frivolous or over-the-top due to its seemingly superficial focus, fashion, especially in the last few years, has taken a turn for the political. Feminism, body inclusivity and gender fluidity are just a few of the social issues that the fashion industry has begun to internalize, and as a result, are social issues that have been reflected in forward-thinking, bold designs that many would argue constitute wearable art.

Since its conception in 1943, NYFW has always been a chance for the global recognition of American creativity and art — and the same principle can be said about it today. In moments of political turbulence and instability, we have always been able to turn to art to see our troubles manifested through the perspective of aesthetic ingenuity. Fashion can serve as an escape, but it can also serve as explanation.

Please join WSN in our celebration of fashion, and check out our coverage of NYFW Fall/Winter 2018 featuring our incredible team of writers and photographers who made this all possible. Thank you all.
