The New Year Issue
January 30, 2017
While most of the United States celebrated the New Year almost a month ago, within the melting pot that people of various identities call home, the New Year never really seems to stop. To commemorate another 365 days orbiting the sun, Chinese people celebrated the Lunar New Year this past Saturday, while Sri Lankan folks still await their celebration in April; the Jewish community marks its day of observance with Rosh Hashanah while Aztec populations commemorate it near the end of February. But regardless of the time of year every culture ingrains some tradition, ritual or sentimental tie to thee holiday. We hope this issue can help bring some of that nostalgia of beginning a new life chapter alongside thousands of others or help provoke a fresh adventure with new conventions to anticipate celebrating in the future.
